We got into The Bungles and set up camp in the southern end of the park. The road in was a little average and took us about 2 hours.
We could hear dingos howling and owls hooting at night. It was pretty warm too.
We booked a half hour helicopter flight for the Wednesday morning and then we went off exploring.
Our first walk was up to the Picanniny Creek Lookout. We followed the dried up creek line and then walked around some of the classic beehive domes to the lookout. The layers of rocks are beautiful to look at. I'm not sure that the photo's truly reflect the lovely colours of the rocks.
The next walk was up to the Cathedral Gorge. Even though we had started walking early in the morning it was already hot by 9am! It wasn't a particularly long walk but the rock walls soared above us and narrowed before opening out into this lovely round shape at the end. There was some water still there - just. I could imagine a singer getting amazing sounds out of this space.
Resting and looking forward to a cold drink!

The next day we had our big treat - a helicopter flight over the Bungles (my birthday present). Ed, Thomas and Olivia went in one helicopter and Charlotte and I were in another. THey just have normal car seat belts and the doors are removed. It was awesome. The splendour of the whole park was fantastic to see. The beehive domes were beautiful as we flew over the top of them. It was wonderful!

After our fantastic helicopter experience we drove up to Echidna Chasm. It was a lovely walk following a creek line into the chasm which got progressively more narrow the further we walked.

We reached the end!
We had a lovely end to our Bungles experience with a sunset viewing of the rocks.
We packed up Thursday morning and drove back into Kununurra.
