Sunday 8th April - Thredbo

Happy Easter!
After a long, very cold night we woke up to understand why. There was a covering of ice all over the camper trailer, the car, the outdoor table just everywhere! It was so cold! The temperature was -2 degrees and down to -9 with the wind!

Charlotte showing the ice on the table. The Frisbee got left outside!

Thomas with some of the easter eggs the Easter Bunny delivered. The eggs outside were frozen!

I read in the local paper that they would be having an easter egg hunt on the village green up at Thredbo so off we went to that. We were all still in our thermals and tracksuits at 10am and everyone else was in shorts! Thomas went with Ed into the little kids area and found quite a few eggs. The girls were in with the mob and were a bit slow off the mark so they were a little disappointed with their haul. However they did get to sit in a fire engine and meet the Easter bunny so all was not lost!

We went and got changed and got ready for the 13km return walk up Mount Kosciusko. It was very cold as we had put on shorts with a thermal tops and our fleeces. We should have worn pants! It is 2228 metres high and it took us 3 hours and 20 minutes to climb up and back. You take a chair lift up to to the start point and them the 13km return journey begins.

Along the way we saw a native Broad -Toothed Rate, a very cold moth and some native fish in the streams along the walk. It was extremely windy and we were very cold in our shorts (especially the kids) Apparently it was -1 degree with  the windy chill factor on the walk up. Spot the WA people in their shorts!
We enjoyed getting to the end of the walk. The kids were amazing. They did very well. Check out their smiles on the chair lift on the way back down.
Olivia was the most glad to be finished!
We had a hot chocolate and some hot chips before returning to camp and filling up on food and chocolate!
As it had been so cold the night before I dressed the kids for bed in so many layers they were so warm! Thank goodness it wasn't as cold!
