Wednesday 4th April - Melbourne to Golden Beach

90 Mile Beach

I was keen to see a bit more of the east coast of Victoria so we headed off towards Lakes Entrance. As it was school holidays and almost Easter we knew that it would be a challenge to find a place to stay. We went as far as 90 Mile Beach which on the south east coast of Victoria, south of Sale. The particular beach we stopped at was Golden Beach. We set up camp hoping for some sun and some good fishing however all we got was loads of mossie bites. The beach was lovely but Ed had no success with fishing (neither did anyone else!) Unbelievably, people were staying there, but we couldn't wait to leave the next day.
The next day we packed up and headed into Lakes Entrance. We enjoyed lunch and a play there for the kids followed by a drive up the Barry Way. The Barry Way goes all the way up to Jindabyne however the recent rains caused damage to the road and it was closed at the border. We went as far as Buchan and then explored the Basin Creek Falls. It was about a 20 minute walk down to the falls close to the Snowy River. There was loads of debris around from the recent rains - it looks like a huge amount of water had come through the river.

It was a hot, sweaty climb back to the car. We then followed the road down to the junction of the Buchan and Snowy Rivers and set up camp. The kids as usual enjoyed exploring and the camp fire at night. They found a big slug which they had to take a photo!
The slug next to Thomas's finger!
