Thursday 1st March 2012- Lake Gardiner near Cradle Mountain to the North Coast

Well true to his promise Ed woke up early to spot a platypus with the kids. I stayed in my warm bed and Olivia did too. There was no hope of getting her out of her nice warm bed. Charlotte & Thomas on the other hand were keen as mustard to spot one. They were rewarded for their efforts by spotting not 1 but 4! They were so excited! Not sure if the photo will be that clear but it doesn't matter because they were on a high after that!
We then packed up and returned to Cradle Mountain National Park to complete some of the shorter walks on offer. We did the Enchanted Walk, the Pencil Pines Walk and the King Billy Pines Walk. We enjoyed them all and it was nice to do some easy short walks after our efforts yesterday.
The water fall on the Pencil Pines Walk apparently made famous in a Cascade Beer commercial!

We left Cradle Mountain after a wonderful couple of days of walking and then we returned back to the north coast. We went through Burnie looking to camp at Sisters Beach only to discover that it is only a small area at the end of the street mainly geared for motor homes and camper vans. What a shame we couldn't stay there - the beach looked beautiful! We moved on and found a camp site at Montague Park. Lots of oldies there who stay for months at a time. It was ok, however I didn't think it was that good! Kids enjoyed a campfire and some marshmallows so it was ok in their book!
