Tuesday 28th February 2012 Devonport to Narawntapu National Park

The beach at Narawntapu National Park (on the north coast)

The Park Ranger on the boat from Melbourne was from the Narawntapu National Park and as it was so close to Devonport (slightly to the east) we decided to go there first as we were guaranteed by the Ranger to see wombats and loads of other wildlife. We drove there and found a camp spot close to the beach and a river. There were only a few other campers there so it was quiet (until we arrived that is!)
Once we had made camp we explored the river and the beach. it was great fun for the kids to get their bathers on (they swim in any weather!) and Ed got out the fishing rod to test the waters! luckily I had planned a spag blog (just in case!).
The kids had fun exploring the beach as you can see!
Back at the camp site I was a little concerned (aka in a mild panic) when some other campers said that they had seen a large tiger snake near our camp site, however I controlled myself and was able to enjoy our time there. We all enjoyed the Pademelons that came around the camp site (looking for food no doubt). The girls decided to categorise them and name them. Charlotte has kept her paper with their names (Taz, Nosey, Curious and Stare) and the particular characteristics that they had. We also had some late night visits from some 'well fed' possums!
The highlight was the exploration after an early dinner of the park to spot wombats and we weren't disappointed! We roamed through the bush and found heaps which delighted us all. We also went on a walk trail in the dusk to view other parts of the park and to see even more animals.
One of our neighbours!

Walking through the bush at dusk.
We had a lovely night at Narawntapu and we were all thrilled to see so much wildlife. We are keen now to see a platypus and a tasssie devil in the wild to tick off our list.
A great start to our Tassie adventure!
