Tuesday 29th February 2012 Narawntapu National Park to Cradle Mountain

We had a leisurely start to the day followed by some school work before we packed up and left beautiful Narawntapu. The distances are not great in Tassie so it wasn't long before we got to Cradle Mountain. I am sure our picture do not do it justice, however it was spectacular on the drive there. We even went through a funny little town called 'Nowhere Else' to get there!
Happy before ewe started walking!
What can you say????
We decided to do the Dove Lake Circuit. We caught the shuttle bus up to the start point and decided to start from the right side. Unfortunately we missed the turn off point and kept walking along another track. We realised we weren't right so we went back and Ed took us up a steep climb to Wombat Pool which was  lovely but not right. We went back to the boatshed and continued on the Dove Lake Circuit which took around 2 hours. The kids were champions! Were were all tired after a solid 3 hours of walking. We caught the shuttle bus back to the visitor centre and then went to find a camp.
A reflection shot!
A rare photo of Ed and I together!
We left Cradle Mountain and camped out at  Lake Gardiner about 45 minutes away. We camped beside a river that flowed into the lake. After the kids had gone to bed I heard a splash whilst I was up on the bridge and I got Ed to get his more powerful mag light out. We then had the great pleasure of seeing (my first) Platypus in the wild. I hope it brings me good luck! Ed resolved to get the kids up early to spot some more. It was a cold night camping - we had to wear beanies to bed!
Another view of Cradle Mountain
Looking for a Platypus near Lake Gardiner
